Google is reportedly developing a journalism AI
Google’s journalism bot, currently under development under the working name “Genesis,” is said to be able to produce news articles when given information about occurrences. The Times’ unnamed sources claim that Genesis is designed to serve as a personal assistant for journalists.
There has long been a great deal of worry that the use of AI in news reporting would encourage the spread of false information. In comparison to human journalists, AI systems and chatbots like Google Bard have shown to be far less proficient at fact-checking and are more likely to declare erroneous facts with conviction and authority.
This has already gotten some AI systems into legal trouble, including ChatGPT. After ChatGPT provided an inaccurate summary of a federal court case that falsely claimed he had cheated his employer and embezzled funds, a Georgia radio personality filed a defamation lawsuit against ChatGPT last month. Google is reportedly developing a journalism AI An attorney who utilized ChatGPT to write court documents was found earlier in May claiming instances that did not exist; the AI seemed to have entirely made them up.
Since factual inaccuracies would be especially problematic in an artificial intelligence system created for journalism, Google will undoubtedly make an effort to prevent flaws like those in Genesis.
Google is reportedly developing a journalism AI. No matter how advanced Google makes their journalistic AI, it will never be able to conduct its own source interviews, attend events, or carry out any investigative reporting. Even then, it might be argued that most journalists aren’t having the chance to do that anyhow as news writers are now frequently tethered to their computers in order to produce many pieces each day.
